The Challenge
Before transitioning to Fermion, ExcelR operated on an older LMS called Teach Edition/Edison. While it helped them serve over 6 lakh learners, it came with several operational challenges. Manual onboarding, lack of automation, and limited technical flexibility slowed down their processes.
For instance, student registration and LMS access were largely manual, requiring team intervention every time a learner signed up or made a payment. Conducting coding tests was also a major hurdle, as the old platform did not have an integrated coding environment. ExcelR had to depend on third-party tools like LeetCode or HackerRank for practice and testing, which fragmented their learner experience.
Additionally, support and turnaround times were slow. Feature requests or bug fixes often took up to two or three months. Operationally, this caused delays in launching programs and scaling efficiently. As ExcelR expanded to serve universities and colleges across India, they needed a more automated, scalable, and analytics-driven solution.
The Solution
After exploring several learning platforms, ExcelR decided to migrate to Fermion, a modern and integrated system built for scale. The change had an immediate impact.
Fermion's automation-first design completely transformed how ExcelR operated day to day. Student onboarding, which earlier took hours of manual effort, is now fully automated. Learners who register through the ExcelR website get instant access to the LMS, whether they are enrolling in a free course or a paid one.
For short-term and certificate programs, the entire journey is now self-service. Students can sign up, complete their learning, and download certificates on their own. This alone saves ExcelR's operations team dozens of hours every week.
Fermion's built-in coding lab has been a game-changer for ExcelR's university and college programs. The team can now conduct real-time coding assessments with auto-graded test cases, proctoring, and instant performance analytics. This replaced multiple third-party tools and allowed ExcelR to deliver assessments for tens of thousands of learners inside a single platform.
Using Fermion's built-in streaming platform, they can now schedule more than 50 live sessions at a time. During one major university program, ExcelR successfully ran 38 separate batches in a single day without using any third-party tools like Zoom, saving heavily on costs and logistics.
Another standout feature for the team has been the Instructor Dashboard. College administrators, HODs, and principals can now view real-time student progress, attendance, and assessment analytics on their own dashboards. This has reduced the reporting workload for ExcelR's operations team by a large margin.
The Impact
The migration to Fermion has had a truly transformational impact on ExcelR's operations and learner experience. Nearly 95% of their data has already been migrated successfully, and the organization now serves over 653,000 active learners on Fermion.
With automation built into every step, processes that once required extensive manual work now run seamlessly. Student onboarding and payment workflows are fully automated, saving the operations team several hours of administrative effort every day.
Coding assessments, which were once fragmented across different tools, are now centralized and proctored within Fermion, ensuring both academic integrity and detailed performance analytics. Live session management has also become far more efficient.
The team can now host multiple large batches simultaneously using Fermion's built-in streaming platform, eliminating the need for external tools and extra costs. Most importantly, ExcelR has experienced a dramatic reduction in manual work across all areas: from onboarding and assessments to reporting.
What's on the Horizon
As ExcelR looks ahead to 2026, their vision is to scale further, targeting 50,000 to 60,000 new learners per month. They see Fermion as a long-term technology partner in this journey.
